Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 First Impressions

The first episode of Tokyo Magnitude impressed me. It impressed me quite a lot, though many over at Animesuki seem to have had a more negative reaction. The reason, I suppose, is that a lot of people were expecting an action packed disaster show (the plot revolves around an earthquake hitting Tokyo, in case that wasn’t obvious). What they got was a gentle introductory episode which brought to life some very realistic characters …..

Touch (1-5)

I will proclaim that the holy trinity of 80s slice-of-life will contain Maison Ikkoku, Touch, and Kimagure Orange Road. Of the three, I would say Kimagure is the weakest (sorry, KOR fans). Of the remaining two, it’s a toss up, as I have only begun Touch. The episodes I’ve seen so far have dragged me into the world and its characters as much as Maison Ikkoku has. Of course, it isn’t perfect, and still contains a few occasional juvenile tropes also found in these other two series. But overall, I find it …

What made Dragonball such a popular series?

I was browsing through a list of currently airing anime when the word “Dragonball” popped out at me.  Apparently Dragonball Z is being recut, remastered and replayed under a new name.  Like most kids my age, I was a fairly big, but not obsessive, fan of Dragonball and Dragonball Z when I was young, right up until about my junior high years.  I remember coming home on Thursdays, turning on the television (back when we didn’t know that anime was …
