I think Up! was just as entertaining in the later parts, although I see your point about it being more childish. But I think maybe it is the difference in tone that's a little disorienting. I mean, the first five minutes have most people in tears by their end, and then there is such a radical shift not only in tone - to cranky-old-man humour, cuteness and adventure - but almost in genre. Like the prologue was mini-biopic and the main story is a fantastical, larger-than-life adventure story. I enjoyed both equally (and the stunning visuals didn't hurt either), but I can see why not everyone would.

Great site, by the way, I just discovered it today! You are multitalented.

The problem with Cars was that it could have been any old movie with real actors. They basically just invented a world where cars are humans, whereas in Monsters Inc or Finding Nemo they showed you a whole different perspective on the world from that of a fish or a monster in the closet.
