I don’t know if I would use words like “cinamatic copout”. But it isn’t really one of the most inventive parts of the anime.

Isn’t there also a piano version of Dramatic? It’s common practice these days to make a slower, acoustic version of an upbeat OP or ED, just check out the acoustic version of Railgun’s ED (ep 12).

Arranging an originally upbeat song into a more (what’s the word…) reflective(?) piece, which is often instrumental instead of with vocals (http://that.animeblogger.net/2008/12/24/musings-in-anime-music-17-kannagi-op-arrangement/"see Kannagi on this one) retains the overarching thematic feeling of whatever scene it accompanies (it makes the scene more ‘important’) but tints it in an interesting way.

Commenting before I read anything but first paragraph: some have said (well, I only remember Zaitcev saying this) that vocal tunes, ie Suga Shikao songs, is just a cinematic copout, trying to use melancholy songs to try and convey meaning over a montage of images and stuff. Agree?…or maybe I’ll read the whole post now =p

I like Waltz the most !!! You described all the songs really well..!

I just want to ask… Can you do a piano tutorial for Waltz since I would like to try and play it.. You don’t have to do it if you don’t want to….

Don’t bother with the live action versions, none of them have accurately followed the storyline. I don’t know why they change things around when there’s a perfect story right there in the manga.

A third season would’ve been okay, but I think the story was told well and that doing more may have been stretching it, resulting in lesser quality.

And thank god they were never forced to do any kind of fillers.

Finished the series today, had to marathon through it, since it was so awesome. The music fit the show like a glove, and was used very well..

But damn, I would have wanted a third season or something. Not bothering with the live-action movies, would just ruin my image of the show.

I’m addicted to Waltz.
An awesome song fit for an awesome anime like H&C.
And the Spitz and Suga Shikao songs are great as well.
