Yeah, maybe. I haven't really read much sci-fi so the concept doesn't feel as worn out to me, I guess (for example, somehow I still have not read any Asimov stories). The potential that I find here is also referring to the characters - I like them enough to want to see more of them.

I've been recommended Mononoke before, but some of the genre tags (horror, supernatural) have made be a little hesitant to try it out, because I'm not entirely sure what kind of series it would be. That being said, I will add it to the future queue.

I liked this series as well (execution, interaction, art was top notch), but can't agree with your statement about 'potential for more'. (IMO) The premise of the story is just too simple/flawed for that, and I think the creators knew about themselves. The story's concept of androids becoming human alike because they are modelled to think and look human-alike and then this leads to ethical/intercourse/etc. problems is just so worn out I almost can't stand it any more. The mindset it comes from reeks so much of human arrogance and naive belief in progress and comprises an oversimplification of the nature of the living.
The last sentences almost? sounded like a rant but are not intended as such, I only had to say my opinion about that kind of story somewhere. :-)

BTW, you really should watch 'Ayakashi 3rd arc/Mononoke' next, I am very interested in a review about it from your side, this show is so under-appreciated.
